About Project

“A Tight Knit Community” – In The Making
Caleb Morgan – Director at Dark to Light Productions

COVID-19 has impacted the world in ways that we have never seen before, but when it
came to the Wood River Valley, the situation grew especially dire. For those that do not know, Blaine County had the highest amount of COVID-19 cases per capita in the entire nation. We aren’t used to getting this kind of national attention unless it’s for our olympic athletes or deep snow, so it’s fair to say that this unfortunate recognition took us all some time to acclimate to.

When it came to pre-production for our film “A Tight Knit Community”, we knew that highlighting our community through these difficult times had top priority. Hope and determination are some of the biggest aspects that we wanted to convey within the film. We went about implementing these aspects by reminding the audience about the gifts our community has to offer and how they will still be here once everything blows over. We know it’s hard to look forward to these gifts when the end is uncertain, but it’s important to remember that they won’t be going anywhere.

Our office pulled together and worked remotely from home to help put this piece together. Because we all happened to be quarantined, we clearly couldn’t film a majority of the footage that is shown in the film. We decided that the best course of action would be to dip into our archives and pull out some of the best footage we’ve shot in the past—we made this decision in
order to pay a tribute to the community that has given us so much throughout the years.

“Winter is our calling—legends are created here. Summer is our secret, we try to keep it on the down low”. A line from the piece that we think perfectly embodies the successful culture and beauty of our home. Although there is still plenty of work to be done in Blaine County and the rest of the world, we look forward to continuing to showcase our community in the best light as we get through this together.
